It's easy to use a button compass. But you should notice the following tips to keep a compass working well.
1. The compass should be used in horizontal position. It can not correctly point the direction in vertical or oblique position.
2. Keep it away from the magnetic place, metal objects such as cars, cameras, loudspeakers and other metal objects. These may effect the compass function or even change its magentic pole.
3. Use it under -10~60℃ environmental temperature. Otherwise, the compass may not work correctly or even broken.
Why a compass might not point north if placed near a wire with a current?
A magnetic field exists in the space surrounding a current-carrying conductor.
At the point in space where the compass sits, if the strength of the fields due to electrical conductors in the vicinity is a significant fraction of the strength of the earth's magnetic field, then the compass reading is guaranteed inaccurate.
